The Young School at Kendall Ridge in Columbia is Awarded M.D.S.E. Accreditation

2010

The Young School at Kendall Ridge in Columbia, Maryland has been accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), one of only a few preschools in Maryland to receive the prestigious accreditation. The State accreditation is a voluntary process that encourages excellence in preschool programs, and gives parents assurance that the school has undertaken vigorous educational standards.

Always proactive about developing the best experience for young children, The Young School decided to commit to the preschool accreditation program as a way of continually setting higher standards for their school. The MSDE Accreditation Program measures many criteria, such as the staff credentials and training, the classroom size, the school curriculum, the school’s interaction with parents, the incorporation of technology into the classroom, and other factors.

For more than two decades, The Young School has prepared young people for the future through an innovative preschool education program that is founded on high expectations and a belief that young children are competent and capable of extraordinary accomplishments. The school pioneered the Cottage learning environment which begins at infant and extends through Kindergarten. Children become part of a nurturing community where they are active participants and learners. The Young School’s philosophy is influenced by two internationally acclaimed early childhood educational approaches, Reggio Emilia and Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) and multiple locations are MSDE certified.
