Welcome to Our School

Welcome to Young School of Meadow Creek! Our school is conveniently located at the Village at Meadow Creek here in Westminster.

We offer programming for infants through pre-kindergarten with flexible full- and part-time schedule options to meet your family’s needs. Our curriculum is inspired by two internationally acclaimed programs: Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) and the Reggio Emilia approach.

Classes are taught by our dedicated teaching staff who participate in ongoing professional development and training, including maintaining current Infant/Child First Aid and CPR certifications.

Meet Our Staff

Kara Benoni, Director

Education: Associate's degree in early childhood education from Mount Aloysious College, Bachelor's in elementary education from the University of Pittsburgh

Certifications: Center Director Training (45 hours), Credentialing- Level 6

After teaching for Carroll County Public School for many years, Kara joined the Young School family in 2010 as a Language Arts teacher and has been a cottage director, assistant head of school and now head of school. Originally from Western Pennsylvania, she moved to Maryland in 2001. She has 13-year-old son, Tyler (2015 Young School Graduate), and a dog, Molly. Kara enjoys running, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She spends most of her time on the basketball courts.

Melissa Barker, School Education Manager

Education: Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from McDaniel College

Certifications: Maryland Educator Certificate, 90 Hour Preschool Certificate, Medication Administration, MSDE Credential Level 6

In 2011, shortly after the Young School at Meadow Creek was built, Melissa came on board as a preschool art teacher after graduating from McDaniel College. She then became a Cottage Director and then moved into the front office. Melissa was born and raised in Westminster where she currently lives with her husband, children and a bunch of pets. Her older daughter is a 2020 graduate of the Young School and her youngest daughter will graduate in 2024.
